Charming Waterfront Cabin with Tranquil Water Views

A beautiful summer cottage designed to blur the line between indoors and out, the Halfmoon Bay Cabin invites residents to reconnect with nature while enjoying comfortable, year-round living. Tucked onto a lush, one-acre lot, the cabin is surrounded by tall trees on one side and offers uninterrupted water views on the other. Designed by Frits de Vries Architects + Associates, the house greets visitors with a sloped roof that draws on vernacular forms and creates a welcoming, timeless silhouette.

Seamless connection between the interior and the landscape achieved through generous floor-to-ceiling glazing

A sheltered entry framed by greenery leads into an open plan living area where the kitchen and dining space flow together. The layout is carefully composed so almost every room maintains a visual connection with the outdoors, thanks to large glazed doors and expansive windows that enclose the rear façade. Wood serves as the primary material throughout, bringing warmth and texture to the interiors, while fireplaces, custom furnishings, and layered textiles create a cozy, lived-in atmosphere.

Outside, a thoughtfully arranged deck extends the living space, furnished for dining and lounging and centered around a fire pit that enhances evening gatherings. The outdoor area takes full advantage of the coastal setting, encouraging residents to spend more time outdoors and to enjoy water views at every turn. Inside the bedroom, a custom feature wall of black-and-white striped panels forms a bold headboard backdrop that contrasts with warm wood finishes. The kitchen pairs natural wood and white cabinetry with stone countertops for a clean, tactile look that complements the cabin’s rustic-modern character.
