That creative spirit is evident in the luxurious Lakeway Residence in Hill Country, Texas. This expansive contemporary home was conceived to blur the boundary between inside and out, using generous glazed windows and floor-to-ceiling glass doors to maintain privacy and keep out the intense Texas sun while preserving visual openness and connection to the landscape.
Designed by Clark Richardson Architects, the home’s street façade is wrapped in white planes interrupted by a sequence of glass walls and a dramatic framed entry that creates visual contrast. Lush planting at the front softens the approach and hints at the spacious rear courtyard beyond. Inside, the open-plan living area favors a neutral palette where white defines much of the backdrop. Thoughtfully placed blue accents bring moments of color and energy to each room, while a large, modern kitchen and an airy dining space anchor the primary public areas of the house.
One of the home’s most striking features is the entry water element that greets guests and visually extends into the interior through continuous glass walls. This seamless integration of landscape and architecture lets the water feature become both a focal point and a cooling presence, enhancing the sense of calm and drama throughout the central spaces. The master suite opens directly to the pool area, offering private views and easy outdoor access, while additional bedrooms and bathrooms are arranged to balance privacy and openness.
Light plays a major role in the residence’s atmosphere: large windows, careful framing and a landscape design that prioritizes both greenery and illumination create a sequence of views at different times of day. Inside, understated but purposeful lighting and considered material choices—stone, glass, and warm finishes—add depth to the restrained color scheme and accentuate architectural lines.
Beyond its visual appeal, the Lakeway Residence incorporates practical strategies to contend with the Texas climate: shading, passive cooling, and careful orientation work alongside high-performance glazing to reduce solar gain while maintaining views. The result is a refined, contemporary home that balances dramatic architectural moments—like the framed entry and the central water feature—with comfortable, livable spaces crafted for everyday use.
