100 Sq Ft Wood Cabin on Galiano Island with Stunning Views

Galiano Island Tiny Cabin: A Secluded Wood-and-Gray Island Retreat

An island retreat is the kind of escape many of us imagine: a quiet place where the pace slows, the air feels cleaner, and the coast sets the rhythm for each day. Tucked into the woods on Galiano Island in Canada, this charming tiny cabin delivers exactly that. Built on a sloped lot and occupying no more than 100 square feet of constructed area, the cabin makes much more of an impression through its landscape and thoughtful design than through raw square footage. Designed by Trim Studio, the compact vacation home demonstrates how restrained architecture and a careful material palette can create a peaceful, spacious-feeling getaway.

The cabin’s exterior uses a simple, modern palette of gray and natural wood that helps it sit gently within the surrounding forest. Large windows frame views of trees, shoreline and distant water, creating a constant connection between interior and landscape. The home’s small footprint is balanced by a generous deck that extends living space outward, providing a place to gather, watch the sea, and breathe in the cedar-scented air.

Inside, the layout is deliberately uncomplicated. The main level houses an open living area and compact kitchen, while a mezzanine bedroom nestles above. This separation keeps the floor plan efficient and the movement through the space intuitive. A wood-and-white color scheme forms a calm backdrop; materials are chosen to feel warm, durable and low-maintenance for a coastal setting.

The kitchen combines matte-black cabinetry and appliances with wooden countertops, creating strong visual contrast and tactile warmth. A well-placed skylight floods the space with daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day, and recessed fixtures provide a soft, even glow at night. These lighting choices keep the interior feeling bright and open despite modest dimensions.

The mezzanine bedroom benefits from the cabin’s skylight and thoughtful proportions. Framed views and daylight make the loft feel open and airy, while retaining the privacy and coziness expected in a sleeping area. Natural materials continue upstairs, linking the loft with the rest of the home in a cohesive, restrained aesthetic.

Outdoor features enhance the cabin’s appeal. An open deck provides sweeping views of the sea and the distant landscape, making it an ideal spot for morning coffee or evening gatherings. String lighting creates a warm, intimate atmosphere after sunset, while a secluded outdoor shower adds a practical, nature-forward touch for rinsing off after hikes or beach visits.
