Modern industrial lofts have become a defining trend in contemporary urban renovation, and renovating one requires careful respect for history combined with creative innovation. The Poblenou Loft, located in El Poblenou in Barcelona and reimagined by The Room Studio, is a standout example of that balance. From the moment you enter, the warm texture of exposed brick greets you, anchoring a generous, open plan that celebrates both the building’s industrial past and a mindful, modern aesthetic. A spacious living area flows into an industrial-style kitchen, with a social dining zone at its center, while lofty white vaulted ceilings give the entire interior a bright, airy feel that sets it apart from a typical loft conversion.

Although the loft carefully preserves its industrial character—most visibly in its brickwork and generous volume—its interiors lean toward a contemporary, even minimalist, sensibility. The designers divided the open plan into distinct living “corners,” each with its own mood and function. Deliberate choices such as brightly colored area rugs and sculptural ceiling lights subtly define zones without interrupting sightlines. Tall indoor plants placed in corners introduce lush greenery and soften the space, while a curved white sofa forms an inviting focal point for relaxation and media viewing. Throughout the home, an organic design language prevails: rounded shapes, uncluttered surfaces and thoughtfully scaled furnishings contribute to a calm, cohesive environment.

Functionality is integral to the design: modular kitchen islands and smart storage solutions keep the large, open spaces organized without compromising their airy quality. Lighting design plays a central role, with a variety of fixtures used to create layers of light—ambient, task and accent—that enhance mood and make each area feel distinct after dark. In the bathrooms, white surfaces and carefully positioned lighting result in a clean, calm atmosphere that complements the loft’s overall aesthetic.

The open-plan layout also includes specialized areas that respond to contemporary lifestyle needs. A projection room offers a cozy, dedicated media space while dining and entertaining are centered around a social hub that encourages conversation and shared meals. Carefully selected artwork and decorative objects add personality and visual interest without overwhelming the restrained palette, and selective pops of color—most notably vivid red accents—create contrast and energy where needed.

Stools and the iconic Campari lamps by Ingo Maurer were included to introduce a recurring red note in several spaces. Carefully chosen, characterful pieces furnish the dining area, reinforcing the modern vocabulary while bringing a touch of contemporary design. The result is fluidity throughout the home and a thoughtful balance between comfort, design and warmth.
Art and decorative pieces punctuate the interior, framing views and drawing the eye across the large volumes. In the dining area, red chairs stand out against a largely neutral backdrop, enlivening the room without overpowering the architecture. In the living area, a comfortable, curved sofa paired with a colorful rug creates an intimate seating arrangement that invites lingering and conversation.

Overall, the Poblenou Loft demonstrates a sensitive approach to renovating industrial spaces: it honors original elements while introducing contemporary comforts and a refined visual language. The result is a home that feels both warm and sophisticated, where practical layouts, considered lighting and selective color accents all contribute to a lived-in yet elegantly modern loft experience.
