Bela Vista House: Brazilian Home with Stunning Panoramic Views

Some of the planet’s most challenging landscapes inspire architects to create homes that are far from ordinary. The elegant and luxurious Bela Vista House, designed by Bernardes Arquitetura, is one such residence. Built on an undulating lot in Brazil, the project transforms difficult terrain into a striking, modern home that feels open, refined and intimately connected to its surroundings. Extensive floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors keep the interior visually linked to the lush outdoors, while terraces, decks and a dramatic infinity pool extend living spaces into the landscape.

The house is organized to respond directly to the slope: private areas and bedrooms are tucked into the lower levels of the site, while the living room, reception, dining area and kitchen occupy the upper slab and are largely enclosed by glass and warm wooden finishes. This arrangement maximizes views, protects private sleeping areas and floods the main living spaces with natural light. The generous glazing dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior so that the garden, courtyard and distant landscape remain visible throughout the day.

Outside, the property offers a range of amenities designed for relaxation and social life: a sauna, a private gym and a dedicated barbecue area. Guest quarters are located apart from the primary house to ensure privacy for visitors and residents alike. Thoughtful siting and circulation—covered walkways and sheltered patios—create sheltered outdoor rooms, while a central courtyard planted with greenery brings nature into the heart of the plan.

Bela Vista House is the result of the intersection of apparently divergent housing types: a patio house organized on a square plan and superimposed linear blocks carefully inserted into the topography with retaining walls. These differences not only enable the house to fit the landscape, they also create a clear contrast between the lower topographic plinth and the lighter volumes above.

The design of Bela Vista House demonstrates how careful planning, sensitivity to topography and a restrained material palette can produce a home that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in its setting. The balance between enclosed and open spaces, private and public zones, and built form with landscape creates an experience that prioritizes comfort, daylight and visual connection to nature. Sustainable strategies and eco-conscious choices are incorporated throughout to enhance long-term comfort and minimize impact, reinforcing the house’s role as a thoughtful, site-specific residence.

Ultimately, Bela Vista House is a confident response to a challenging site: it offers generous, light-filled public spaces above while preserving intimacy and privacy below, and it invites residents to live in constant dialogue with the surrounding greenery, terraces and panoramic views.
