Renovated Mexican Home Becomes a Welcoming Family Space

Casa M — A Mexican Family Home Reimagined as a Gathering Center

In Lomas de Chapultepec, Mexico City, a traditional family residence has been carefully reinterpreted and expanded into a versatile family gathering center and event venue. The renovation by Weber Arquitectos converts the home, known as Casa M, into a space that comfortably hosts intimate family occasions as well as large celebrations. Central to the redesign is a large banquet hall that accommodates more than 60 guests, while the rest of the house balances residential comfort with adaptable social areas for everyday life and special events.

The interior palette is restrained and contemporary, anchored by neutral whites and soft grays that form a calm backdrop for light-toned wood finishes. These warm wood accents are used throughout to create continuity between rooms while maintaining a residential feeling. Lighting plays a crucial role: carefully positioned fixtures produce an even, inviting glow that highlights original features and newly designed elements alike.

One of the renovation’s most notable strategies is flexibility. Large movable panels and smart partitions allow rooms to be reconfigured quickly to suit different functions, and a carefully chosen, adaptable décor ensures each area can shift easily from everyday family use to event mode. The lower and upper levels maintain a strong visual and functional connection to the landscaped garden, and covered outdoor areas extend living and entertaining zones so that indoor and outdoor spaces flow seamlessly together.

Functionally, Casa M offers a diverse program of spaces: a formal boardroom, a playroom for children, a large home library that invites social lounging and study, and a gallery area for displaying artwork. An indoor, covered pool provides year-round recreation, while a generous banquet hall is specifically designed to host family celebrations, dinners and special events. Sliding glass walls and expansive windows connect many interior rooms directly to the curated garden, bringing natural light, views and fresh air into the heart of the house.

Throughout the project, the design team respected the house’s original artwork and architectural outline. Rather than replacing heritage elements, the renovation integrates and restores existing pieces where appropriate. New furniture designs were introduced alongside the restoration of selected original items, creating a balanced dialogue between old and new. The finish selection emphasizes sober, high-quality materials: light woods, muted wall tones and carefully curated accents that support the home’s calm, modern character.

The interior design seeks to harmonize original elements of the house with a contemporary proposal, paying special attention to sober finishes in light woods and neutral wall colors. New furniture designs were proposed and existing pieces were restored.

Outdoor amenities and covered terraces expand the home’s usable area and allow gatherings to flow outside during mild weather. Ambient lighting throughout the landscape and sheltered patios creates an inviting atmosphere for evening events. In sum, the project transforms a private residence into a flexible, elegant venue for family life and shared celebrations while honoring the original architecture.
