House A: A Contemporary Social Home in Escobar, Buenos Aires
Everyone’s idea of a dream home is different. Some prioritize efficient, flexible layouts that make the most of limited space, while others want a sprawling, nature-focused retreat built for relaxation and entertaining. House A in Escobar, Buenos Aires, designed by GMARQ, responds to both priorities with a refined, contemporary design tailored to a young couple who frequently host friends and family. At the core of the project is a deliberately conceived social zone: the living area, open kitchen and dining space are designed to operate as a single, generous area for gatherings.

The house greets visitors with a practical carport at the entrance, while the main entertainment area opens onto an outdoor pergola beneath the cantilevered upper level. That covered outdoor space, combined with a generous garden and a swimming pool, extends the home’s social life into the landscape. A dedicated grill and well-planned outdoor seating create an inviting party zone that flows effortlessly from the interior.

Material choices reinforce the home’s contemporary character while addressing practical needs. A stone plinth provides a solid base for the cantilevered upper level, adding both structural support and privacy. Small courtyards and carefully positioned glass walls blur the boundary between indoors and out, bringing daylight and garden views into the heart of the house. Thoughtful modern furnishings and a restrained palette of neutrals keep the interiors sleek yet comfortable.

On the same level as the main social spaces, a custom-designed TV room prioritizes acoustics and connectivity, offering a tech-savvy retreat for movies and music without interrupting the flow of entertaining. A smart, compact staircase links the public and private zones; a skylight above the stairwell channels natural light down through the center of the plan, enhancing circulation and spatial clarity.

The open-plan kitchen connects directly to the outdoors through wide sliding glass doors, making it easy to move between indoor dining and alfresco meals. This connection encourages a lively, flexible entertaining pattern—food and conversation can flow from one space to another. The kitchen’s finishes and layout are modern and functional, designed to support both everyday life and larger gatherings.

Private areas are positioned upstairs, where bedrooms are rendered in calm, neutral hues to promote rest and privacy. The bathroom on the upper level pairs clean, contemporary fixtures with a stone-clad shower area that recalls the exterior palette, creating continuity between inside and out. Furnishings such as a classic Eames lounge chair add timeless character and comfortable lounging spots with views over the garden.

Throughout the house, natural light, careful material choices and a coherent spatial plan create an ergonomic, sophisticated home that still feels compact and efficient. Small landscaped courtyards and the use of glass help the interior breathe, while the stone elements ground the design in a tactile, durable expression. Whether hosting lively gatherings or enjoying quiet family time, House A balances social living with comfortable private retreats in an elegant contemporary package.
