Andaman Sea Sunsets at Kalim Beach House

Kalim Beach House, Patong — Hillside Home with Curved Pool and Andaman Sea Views

Nestled on Phuket’s west coast in the heart of Tambon Patong, the Kalim Beach House is a striking hillside residence that frames wide coastal views, the distant Andaman Sea and unforgettable sunset panoramas. Designed to respond to a compact, sloped lot, the home makes clever use of vertical space and layered volumes to create generous living areas without compromising privacy or daylight control. Architects at design Qua faced a range of site constraints and turned them into defining features: compact footprints, stepped terraces, and a composition that opens toward the sea.

The most memorable element of the property is the curved swimming pool that hugs the living level and outdoor deck. Positioned to reflect the sky and the house façade, the pool becomes a visual anchor for daily life here. An evening swim provides sweeping views as the sun dips toward the Andaman Sea, bathing the terrace in warm, shifting tones. The deck and pool connect directly to the interior through wide sliding glass doors, extending the open-plan living, dining and kitchen spaces into the outdoors and encouraging a seamless indoor–outdoor lifestyle.

Inside, thoughtful planning keeps interiors bright without exposing them to the full force of a tropical sun. Moving bamboo screens and operable blinds are used throughout to filter light, provide shade and allow natural ventilation. These features work with sheltered courtyards and recessed walkways to moderate temperature and create a layered sequence of private and social spaces. Natural materials—concrete, warm timber and bamboo—are combined for a restrained, contemporary palette that complements the lush coastal setting.

The house includes four bedrooms and multiple bathrooms, along with guest and utility rooms that support comfortable family living or short-term stays. Living areas are arranged to take full advantage of the site’s slope: upper terraces and living rooms look out across the bay while lower courtyards and bedrooms enjoy quiet, shaded retreats. A freestanding white bathtub and minimalist concrete bathrooms reinforce the project’s pared-back, contemporary aesthetic, while pops of color in soft furnishings add a relaxed, tropical feel to the open-plan lounge.

Sliding glass doors visually and physically delineate the living area from the deck and pool, but they also allow the interior to feel expansive and connected to the landscape. The kitchen, anchored by a stone island, becomes a social hub where family and guests gather. Durable finishes and carefully selected materials ensure longevity in a coastal environment while maintaining an elegant, modern look.

Smart shading is a defining strategy at the Kalim Beach House. Bamboo screens, both fixed and movable, create dappled shade and privacy while allowing sea breezes to pass through. These screens are paired with operable blinds and sheltered walkways so that sunlight is welcomed when desired and blocked when necessary. Concrete walls provide structural solidity and thermal mass, while timber elements and woven bamboo add warmth and textural contrast.

From a bird’s-eye perspective, the residence reads as a layered composition of terraces, roofs and planted courtyards. Sustainable touches such as rooftop solar panels are visible in aerial views, reinforcing a commitment to low-impact living in a tropical context. The combination of passive design strategies, durable natural materials and site-specific planning produces a home that feels both luxurious and intimately connected to its coastal setting.

Practical circulation is resolved with stepped staircases that link levels and guide residents between public terraces and quieter private spaces below. Courtyards and shaded walkways create moments of pause and encourage outdoor living even on the hottest days. The result is a tailored coastal residence that balances dramatic sea views with comfort, climate responsiveness and refined materiality.

The Kalim Beach House demonstrates how careful design can transform a constrained hillside lot into a relaxed, light-filled home. With its curved pool, bamboo shading systems, generous terraces and thoughtful use of concrete and timber, the house is a contemporary interpretation of tropical living—designed to celebrate sunset views over the Andaman Sea while protecting comfort and privacy.
