Finding a quiet refuge amid the constant rush of city life can be difficult. Life quickly becomes cluttered and noisy, which is why a carefully designed home can make all the difference. House GePo in Wijgmaal, Belgium, designed by OYO, is one such retreat: a minimalist residence that blends modern materials with a calming, green setting to create a true oasis of rest and simplicity.

Constructed from concrete, wood and glass and set on a metallic frame, GePo balances sturdy industrial materials with warm, natural elements. The metal structure provides a modern, elevated silhouette while the wood and glass soften that profile, making the house feel both contemporary and inviting. Large glass walls wrap the main living space, visually connecting the interior to the surrounding garden and the small lake that sits just outside the house. This deliberate transparency makes the landscape feel like an extension of the living area and establishes a continuous relationship between inside and out.

Inside, the décor is intentionally simple and minimal. Clean lines, neutral tones and carefully chosen furnishings allow natural light to become the dominant design element. Sunlight floods the rooms throughout the day, changing the mood and highlighting the textures of concrete, wood and metal. The lower level accommodates the living areas and other public spaces, while the bedrooms occupy the top floor, creating a clear functional separation that supports both social living and private rest.

A small, natural water body beside the house not only enhances the scenic appeal but works as a reflective centerpiece for the landscape design. The pool and surrounding planting mirror the architecture and create a sense of calm; their reflections bring additional light and visual depth into the living spaces. Trees and carefully placed greenery offer shade and privacy, tempering direct sunlight and contributing to a pleasing play of light and shadow as the day progresses.

The house’s layout keeps daily life uncomplicated: a separate kitchen offers an easy division between cooking and social spaces, while the living room remains a calm gathering spot with direct views out to the garden and water. Thoughtful touches—such as inventive shelving units that introduce color into the otherwise restrained palette—add personality without disrupting the minimalist ethos.

Bedrooms on the upper level are designed for privacy and relaxation. Draperies provide additional screening when needed, allowing occupants to control light and seclusion while maintaining the house’s airy ambiance. The top-level concrete volumes and the building’s clean, geometric forms reinforce the contemporary aesthetic, while the surrounding landscape keeps the experience grounded and restorative.

In short, House GePo offers a well-considered escape from everyday clutter by combining minimal interiors, transparent boundaries and a rich, green setting. The result is a serene home that encourages rest, fosters connection with the outdoors and keeps daily living refreshingly uncomplicated.
