Imagine a forgotten, century-old barn at the back of a property transformed into a striking second home. That is precisely the achievement of La Firme with “The Barn”: an exterior that retains its original presence and a thoroughly modern, carefully considered interior. The renovation respects the building’s vernacular character while adapting it for contemporary living, preserving structural elements and enhancing the original framework to create a warm, livable house.
At the heart of the design is a dramatic 30-foot living area that opens the interior vertically and visually, creating a powerful sense of volume. The space that once housed livestock now functions as the main living zone, with the kitchen and dining area arranged beside it for a seamless, open-plan layout. Large glass windows and openings invite natural light and connect the interior to the surrounding landscape, emphasizing an indoor-outdoor relationship that suits modern lifestyles.
The kitchen blends farmhouse warmth with contemporary finishes. Soft light-green cabinets and floating white shelves create a calm backdrop, while blue pendant lights and matching stools introduce subtle color accents. The overall palette—white walls, natural wood tones and carefully chosen pops of color—keeps the space feeling fresh, airy and welcoming.
