Cloud Nine Space: A Living Bedroom by Studio Gabriel Bordin

Imagine a bedroom that functions as much more than a place to sleep — a flexible, comfortable living area that adapts through seasons and changing needs. The Cloud Nine Space, designed by Studio Gabriel Bordin and shown at CASACOR, brings this idea to life within a 40-square-meter footprint. The concept blends bedroom and living room elements to create a calm, modern environment that prioritizes comfort, adaptability and sustainability.

The scheme centers on a custom Cloud Bed created by architect Gabriel Bordin, which anchors the room and contributes an unmistakable sense of luxury. Behind the bed, a wall of backlit panels built from encased mattress coils provides both light and texture; the panels reference the bed’s construction while serving as an elegant, functional room divider. White surfaces and a raw, exposed concrete ceiling form a neutral backdrop that allows the bespoke furnishings, sculptural lighting and carefully chosen accents to stand out.

Storage and seating are integrated into the layout to support multiple activities. Bespoke built-in benches, custom bedside tables and discreet niches provide practical storage without interrupting the calm visual flow. A reading corner with layered lighting and an inviting seat creates a cosy spot for work or relaxation, while additional seating and open floor space allow the room to serve as a conversational lounge when needed.

Plantings and carefully selected decor pieces introduce warmth and contrast. A large indoor plant and a handful of artful objects punctuate the mostly white palette, providing organic texture and color without overwhelming the composition. Lighting is layered and purposeful: soft backlighting from the coil wall, task lighting for reading, and subtle accent lights together create a balanced atmosphere for day and night.

One of the project’s guiding principles is sustainability through minimal intervention. All furniture in the Cloud Nine Space is modular and built to be easily reconfigured or reused, reducing the waste typically produced by short-term displays and events. The encased coil panels, for example, serve as a practical alternative to building a full partition, limiting construction while adding character and function.

The design balances aesthetics and utility: clean lines, neutral tones and a restrained material palette create an elegant base, while custom seating, sculptural chairs and adaptable storage deliver everyday practicality. Small details — a simple vase on the bedside table, a compact clock, or an understated art display — are used sparingly to enhance the room’s calm and considered feel.

The Cloud Nine Space offers a practical model for small apartments and tiny homes. Its mix of modular furniture, integrated storage and multifunctional zones shows how thoughtful design can make compact spaces feel generous and adaptable. The project demonstrates that a bedroom can be both a restful retreat and a versatile living area — all while keeping sustainability and reuse at the core of the concept.
