Belgian Eclectic Loft: Colorful Interior with Quirky Details

Everyone dreams of a home that feels special—distinctive, personal and full of character. This lively, colorful loft in Antwerp, Belgium delivers exactly that: a bold blend of industrial history and playful contemporary design that feels uniquely its own. Housed in a 1950s building, the space was reimagined by Studio Job to reflect the spirited tastes of its owners, combining vintage elements, bespoke pieces and cheerful color in a way that never feels chaotic.

Inside, color is abundant but thoughtfully deployed. The designers balanced lively rugs, art and furniture with a calm industrial backdrop—raw textures, exposed beams and brick that ground the palette and give the rooms depth. The floor plan is open and airy: the lower level contains the main living areas—dining, kitchen and lounge—while the upper level houses the master suite, additional living spaces and a home office. Bright area rugs subtly define functional zones, creating a layered, lived-in look that still reads as design-forward.

The loft’s industrial bones—concrete beams, brick walls and broad open spaces—provide a neutral canvas for the bespoke decor. Carefully chosen furniture and playful accessories add warmth and personality: a statement armchair that seems to grow out of a vivid rug, a classic Tulip dining table paired with colorful seating, and custom-built pieces that respond to the layout rather than forcing the rooms into a single aesthetic.

Textiles and surfaces are used with intention: tactile rugs, smooth marble and warm wood soften the industrial framework, creating contrast and inviting touch. The dining area is a standout example—a marble-topped Tulip table anchors the space while a colorful rug and carefully chosen lighting give it a midcentury-modern flair with contemporary attitude. These layered choices make each area feel distinct yet cohesive.

A sculptural wooden staircase connects the two loft levels and doubles as a visual centerpiece. Its distinctive, colorful railing injects whimsy while the form remains elegantly simple. Lighting throughout the home balances natural light from generous windows with carefully placed fixtures that highlight textures and artwork, giving the loft a warm, convivial atmosphere at every hour.

The private areas continue the same design language, favoring clean lines, soft tones and carefully considered lighting. The bedroom and bathrooms maintain a serene, contemporary feel while still referencing the loft’s industrial roots through exposed brick and textured surfaces. Small, whimsical touches in the home office—custom shelving, playful decor and a bright workspace rug—keep the overall mood upbeat and personal.

Outside, the terrace and rooftop garden extend the living space and offer a quiet contrast to the interior’s color and texture. These outdoor areas provide a peaceful retreat and a place to enjoy sunlight and city views—an essential complement to the loft’s vibrant indoor life. Overall, the renovation preserves the building’s architectural character while layering in custom design, color and craftsmanship to create a joyful, sophisticated home with a strong sense of identity.
