Singapore Home with Geometric Facade and Lush Green Oasis

Singapore is one of the busiest cities in the world, and finding private, comfortable residential space amid dense urban development can be difficult. When a housing unit built in the 1980s was reimagined by Park + Associates Pte Ltd, the result was Stark House: a contemporary home that balances openness with privacy, and modern lines with a quiet, natural warmth. This transformed residence demonstrates how careful design — using concrete and glass in dialogue with landscaping — can create a light-filled sanctuary in a tightly packed neighborhood.

The Stark House makes confident use of raw materials: intersecting concrete planes are pared with extensive glass walls and sliding doors to create spaces that feel both robust and airy. This interplay of solid and transparent surfaces allows interior rooms to open visually to the outside while retaining a sense of enclosure when privacy is needed. Strategic glazing brings in daylight and frames views of the surrounding greenery without exposing the home to neighboring buildings.

Inside, the palette leans toward muted tones — grays, raw concrete finishes and carefully chosen black-and-white contrasts — that emphasize a calm, contemporary aesthetic. These restrained materials bring a tactile quality to the interior while harmonizing with the exterior concrete planes. The dining area and living spaces are designed to feel cohesive and uncluttered, letting texture and proportion create visual interest instead of relying on heavy decoration.

The house’s façade uses a custom geometric composition that gives the building a distinctive profile and helps modulate privacy. Offsets in the volumes and carefully placed openings orient views inward to a central garden while shielding living areas from surrounding sightlines. A lightwell and spatial breaks between levels promote cross-ventilation, making the home feel naturally ventilated and comfortable in Singapore’s tropical climate.

A curated garden wraps the house and acts as a green buffer, offering shade, privacy and a quiet retreat from the urban rush. The landscaping is intentionally modest yet effective: dense planting screens the perimeter while creating pleasant views from interior rooms. Adjacent to the pool, a minimal timber deck maintains the home’s uncluttered character and provides an outdoor extension of the living areas for relaxation and entertaining.

The program includes a new basement level that increases usable space without stretching the home’s footprint. This approach preserves generous outdoor areas and allows the upper floors to maintain crisp proportions and a strong architectural presence. Floor plans included with the design show how the basement, first floor and second storey interrelate to create a balanced sequence of public and private zones throughout the house.

Views from the upper-level balcony showcase the surrounding greenery, reinforcing the house’s relationship with its planted buffer. The overall composition — concrete planes, expanses of glass, compact decking and layered planting — creates a contemporary family home that feels open, airy and private at once. Stark House demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can convert an older dwelling into a modern, environmentally responsive sanctuary in the heart of Singapore.
