How Natural Light Transforms the Landau Boulevard Apartment

This elegant residential project was developed by the architects of CMEXA. Throughout the design process, the team focused on creating fluid spatial relationships while preserving the distinct identity of each room. The result is a calm, natural interior that balances texture, color, and light to promote a tranquil living environment.

Located on Landau Boulevard, this apartment was designed as a quiet, comfortable retreat that supports harmonious daily living. Functionality guided the layout, while optical techniques and carefully selected finishes help the interior feel more spacious than its footprint might suggest.

The design intent was to create a soothing, naturally inspired atmosphere using a restrained palette of textures, tones, and daylight. Transitions between zones are subtle yet deliberate: ceiling windows, carefully placed mirrors, and smart glass devices all contribute to a feeling of openness while allowing rooms to remain functionally separate when needed.

In the living area, a large window is echoed and reframed by a circular mirror with a warm bronze tint, amplifying daylight and adding a sculptural focal point. Much of the bespoke furniture was produced by the Mikson factory in Moscow, enabling custom storage solutions and a cohesive joinery language throughout the hallway and kitchen.

The living room pairs timber elements in similar but distinct tones to deliver a warm, authentic character. Accents of green recall foliage and introduce a calming, nature-inspired palette. Stone-like materials frame the panoramic window and finish the kitchen countertop, strengthening the connection to natural textures.

The kitchen is separated from the living area by a low bar counter. Between the kitchen and a connected study, a pane of smart glass provides flexibility: it can be transparent to admit light and maintain visual continuity, or, when activated, become opaque to offer privacy for the study.

When the smart glass is clear, natural light floods the kitchen; when privacy is required in the study, the glass turns opaque without sacrificing the overall daylight strategy.

The color palette flows from the living room into the bedroom, reinforcing a sense of continuity across the plan. A narrow ceiling window introduces natural light into the master bathroom, visually expanding the adjacent spaces and maintaining sightlines that reinforce the apartment’s unified atmosphere. Multiple lighting scenes in the bathroom ensure comfortable, undisturbed rest and adaptable ambiance.

Below the narrow window, a stepped cabinet extends toward the bathroom, creating tiered surfaces that capture daylight and provide planting niches lit by white phyto lamps. Light from the master bathroom also filters into the guest lavatory through a ceiling window, allowing morning sunlight to travel through and visually link the three spaces.
