The Hamptons is famed for grand retreats that offer an escape from the city, yet the Amagansett House stands apart for its calm, intentionally pared-back elegance. Commissioned by owners who wanted to showcase a prized collection of Danish furnishings, the house was shaped by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design to create a refined, comfortable backdrop that complements those pieces instead of competing with them. The result is a quietly modern Scandinavian home: predominantly white and monochrome, warmed by pale painted woods and grounded by brass and marble accents.

Light and a strong indoor-outdoor connection are at the heart of the design. Large openings and carefully placed windows bring a steady stream of daylight into all main rooms, highlighting the restrained palette of white paint, natural wood tones and selected greenery. That same scheme carries through the bedrooms and baths, where simple, uncluttered surfaces and natural materials create a restful, cohesive feel. Brass fixtures and occasional marble surfaces provide subtle texture and a touch of luxury without overwhelming the serene atmosphere.

The kitchen is a central focus of family life here, expanded to be generous and open while still retaining an intimate, lived-in character. Natural wood surfaces, a simple dining table and sculptural chairs balance the clean white cabinetry. In this house the kitchen flows directly to outdoor living areas, encouraging movement between interior and exterior and creating flexible zones for cooking, dining and socializing.

Built-in benches and custom seating are repeated features that make the interiors both practical and inviting. These integrated elements maximize space and reinforce the home’s architectural rhythm while offering comfortable nooks for reading, watching the world outside or gathering with family. Thoughtful storage and carefully selected furniture pieces keep rooms feeling uncluttered while still remaining warm and accessible.

The project represented a departure from historic renovations, asking instead for a transformation toward a light-filled, Scandinavian-inspired getaway. The design introduced cozy sitting areas with built-in sofas on each level and expanded the kitchen into space previously occupied by a screened porch to support family life and entertaining.

Bedrooms are serene and refined, often punctuated by soft color accents and subtle patterns that add personality without disrupting the overall calm. Wall decals and restrained graphic motifs introduce visual interest in children’s and guest rooms while preserving the cohesive white-and-wood aesthetic. The kids’ room, for example, embraces practical family living with well-crafted bunk beds that echo the home’s Scandinavian proportions and simplicity.

Overall, Amagansett House exemplifies a thoughtful modern approach to Hamptons living: understated, functional and elegant. Careful material choices, an emphasis on daylight, and a layout that encourages both quiet moments and lively gatherings make the home well suited to family life and entertaining alike. The design respects the owners’ collection by providing a calm, cohesive backdrop that highlights each carefully chosen piece and keeps the focus on comfort and timeless style.
